Calif. organic certifier taps Lewin

CCOF's roster of certified operations numbers over 1,000 farmers

California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) Friday named Jake Lewin as Certification Services Director.

CCOF certifies organic over 850 products and more than three-quarters of California’s organic acreage, including a single-year, 27 percent increase of 40,000 acres in 2005.

One of North America’s oldest and largest organic certifiers, CCOF’s certification program has grown to one of the largest in the United States with more than 1,000 organic farmers, including about 400 organic processors.

“CCOF has built a strong reputation and significant customer loyalty through a dedication to integrity and service,” said Lewin, who brings eight years of organic food, farming, and certification experience to the job.

Previous employment in the field includes working on an organic strawberry farm and as a certification reviewer, program manager and organic inspector for “a variety” of organic certifiers, CCOF said.
