Coolhaus recalls dairy-free dessert after customer complained

Investment group Sunrise Strategic acquired minority stake in Coolhaus last summer

After receiving a consumer complaint, Farchitecture BB LLC, dba Coolhaus said it is recalling its Dairy Free Horchata Frozen Dessert Sandwich because it may contain milk.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to dairy run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product, said Culver City, Calif.-based Coolhaus, which uses some organic ingredients to make its ice cream sandwiches and pints.

The Coolhaus Dairy Free Horchata Sandwich (UPC #0085191600365) was distributed in grocery stores nationally. The product is sold in a 5.8-ounce, single-serve package with “Best By” dates of 06182020, 08012020, 08252020, 10082020 or 10262020.

Investment group Sunrise Strategic Partners LLC acquired a minority stake in Coolhaus last summer. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Coolhaus was founded in 2009 by Natasha Case and Freya Estreller, who incorporated the company as Farchitecture BB, LLC.

CEO Case created Farchitecture BB Profits Interest Member 1 LLC in December 2017 soon after Estreller left the company. A profits interest represents an ownership interest in future growth of an LLC rather than an interest based on its current value, as such, appreciation in the value of the LLC is taxed as long-term capital gains rather than as ordinary income.
