General Mills: Organic food sales soar 34%

Cascadian Farm, Muir Glen brands feeding sector's demand

Food conglomerate General Mills, Inc. said Thursday net sales for the company’s Small Planet Foods organic business grew 34 percent in the first quarter of fiscal 2007.

The Small Planet subsidary makes and markets organic and all natural produce under the Cascadian Farm and Muir Glen brand names.

Overall, General Mills reported a seven percent increase in sales for the quarter, which ended $2.9 billion on Aug. 27
