Major organic baking mixes, ingredients brand gets acquired

Cell-nique consolidates operations at its certified-organic facility on Hudson River

Cell-nique Corporation dba Hudson River Foods said Tuesday it has acquired Hodgson Mill Inc., a leading U.S. producer of organic and all-natural whole grain foods.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Castleton, N.Y.-based Cell-nique, founded in 2005, had changed its dba name from Healthy Brands Collective to Hudson River Foods in 2017 to reflect its new headquarters and manufacturing location in New York’s Hudson River Valley.

Cell-nique dba Hudson River Foods manufactures and markets organic and natural food products under the following brands: Tempt Hemp, European Gourmet Bakery, Cherrybrook Kitchen, High Country Kombucha, Healthy To Go!, Epic Seed and 479 Popcorn.

Products are sold in leading natural and specialty retailers nationwide, and through distributors such as United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI) and KeHE.

Cell-nique’s 100,000-square-foot facility, just south of Albany, is certified organic by Oregon Tilth.

Effingham, Ill.-based Hodgson Mill produces flours, cereals, baking ingredients and baking mixes. The company’s operations have been moved to Cell-nique’s facility in Castleton.

Cell-nique had also acquired natural dessert and snack company Dancing Deer Baking Co., Inc., in February. Dancing Deer closed up its 25-year-old Boston headquarters in late April to move to Castleton.

“With these strategic acquisitions, Hudson River Foods continues to reinforce its leadership position in every aspect of the non-gmo, kosher and organic food and beverage market,” said Donna Ratner, Cell-nique COO.
