Organic baby food brand gets another $2 mil’ from investment fund

NurturMe says it will double sales by end of 2017

Freed Foods, Inc. dba NurturMe, a maker of organic quinoa-based baby food, said it is introducing organic meals and snacks under the Tummy Friendly brand designed to support overall digestive health in babies and toddlers.

The Austin, Tex.-based company’s portfolio, which launched in 2014, includes quinoa infant cereals, NurturMeals Baby Food, Quinoa Squares and Yum-a-Roo’s toddler snacks. All products are certified-organic, naturally gluten-free, non-GMO and kosher, without any added preservatives or sugars.

Freed Foods said it reached 127 percent year-over-year growth in the second quarter, and expects to more than double its revenue by the end of the year.

The company said it has received a $2 million follow-on investment from private equity fund Advantage Capital Agribusiness Partners (ACAP), which invested $3.7 million in Freed Foods in July 2016.

The company said it will use the investment to expand the rollout of its new, 11-SKU "free from" organic baby and toddler foods with probiotics line, including the category’s first ancient grain cookies with probiotics for kids.

Meanwhile, the new, gluten-free Tummy Friendly brand of baby foods and toddler snacks – which are free from common allergens that can upset sensitive stomachs in babies and toddlers including gluten, dairy, soy and egg – are rolling out in select Target stores nationwide this month and Kroger stores this fall.
