Organic beverage brand acquires organic iced tea brands

Purity Organic's new CEO was former president of 5-Hour Energy brand

Purity Organic LLC, a maker of certified-organic beverages, said Tuesday it has acquired Dunn’s River Brands Group Inc. (DRB), owner of the certified-organic, ready-to-drink Sweet Leaf Tea brand and Tradewinds natural teas and juice brand.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. DRB was formed as a “strategic beverage platform” in 2017 in partnership with Waltham, Mass.-based private equity firm Fireman Capital Partners (FCP) to acquire the Sweet Leaf Tea and Tradewinds brands from Nestlé Waters North America.

Oakland, Calif.-based Purity Organic has been certified organic by Oregon Tilth since 2012.

Purity recently hired Mary Page Platerink, the former president and COO of the 5-hour ENERGY brand, as its CEO.

“We are excited about this acquisition as it continues our mission of continuing to provide better for you brands to our customers,” said Platerink. “We have an aggressive roadmap in 2020 and look forward to continuing to serve our key markets and expanding into new areas for all our brands.”
