Organic hydroponic farm gains certifier’s eco-label

North Shore Greenhouses is also certified organic by CCOF

SCS Global Services released a video Friday featuring North Shore Greenhouses Inc.‘s living herbs and greens, which are certified as Sustainably Grown by the sustainable agriculture certification agency.

Thermal, Calif.-based North Shore, which grows its herbs hydroponically in peat moss, is owned and operated by the Overgaag Family and has been certified organic by CCOF Certification Services LLC since 2007.

SCS said North Shore’s living herbs and greens were the first products of their kind to be certified under the Sustainably Grown eco-label.

To achieve Sustainably Grown certification, agricultural products must meet rigorous standards for environmental protection, ethical production, social compliance, product quality and food safety.

“It was the perfect fit for us to partner with SCS and to get the certification,” said North Shore’s production manager Tiago Castro.
