Top organic RSD brand acquires competitor

Litehouse to invest $46 mil' in new Danville production plant

Litehouse, Inc., maker of North America’s top-selling organic brand in the refrigerated salad dressing (RSD) category, said it will acquire Sky Valley Foods Inc., a maker of natural and organic sauces and salad dressings under the Organicville and Sky Valley brands.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Sandpoint, Idaho-based, employee-owned Litehouse produces the leading RSD brand in North America as well as fruit and veggie dips, sauces, Instantly Fresh Herbs, blue cheese, and pressed apple cider at its three manufacturing plants in Michigan, Utah and Idaho.

The acquisition includes Sky Valley’s 132,000-square-foot production plant in Danville, Va., where Sky Valley had relocated to in 2014.

Litehouse said it will invest $46 million in the Danville facility, which has been certified organic by QAI since 2015. Litehouse maintains four additional certified-organic production facilities in Michigan, Utah and Idaho.

Formerly based in Yanceyville, N.C., Sky Valley was formed in early 2011 with the merger of Wizard’s Cauldron of Yanceyville, N.C., and Organicville Foods of Milwaukee, Wis.
