Top U.S. natural and organic brand’s plant-based Q1 sales soar 32%

Kroger debuted its Simple Truth plant-based portfolio in 2019

The Kroger Co., the nation’s biggest supermarket company, said growth of its Simple Truth Plant Based portfolio soared 32 percent in the first quarter ended May 23.

The Simple Truth plant-based portfolio debuted last year with products including vegan chocolate chip cookie dough, oat milk, sour cream, deli slices, and sausage, among other products.

Cincinnati, Ohio-based Kroger (NYSE: KR), with more than $122 billion in 2019 sales, said its Simple Truth portfolio is the leading natural and organic brand in the country.

Overall, Kroger’s Simple Truth and Simple Truth Organic brands, which include more than 1,550 natural and organic products, generated sales of more than $2.5 billion in 2019.

The Simple Truth portfolio had contributed $2.3 billion toward its total of $17.6 billion worth of natural and organic products sold in 2018.
