U.S. Sens. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Jon Tester (D-Mont.) plan to hold a press conference Wednesdsay afternoon on the reintroduction of their bill to place an immediate moratorium on acquisitions and mergers in the food and agriculture sector.
The moratorium would be in place until Congress passes comprehensive legislation addressing the problem of market concentration in the industry.
The legislation, titled the Food and Agribusiness Merger Moratorium and Antitrust Review Act, which was originally introduced last August, aims to protect farmers and ranchers by halting the growing consolidation of the corporate meat sectors.
