USDA revokes organic rice noodle maker’s organic certificate

Oregon Brineworks supplier also suspended from USDA's National Organic Program

Organic rice noodle manufacturer Bich Chi Food Company has become the second USDA-certified organic operation to have its organic certificate revoked in 2019.

The Vietnam-based company, which has 11 products bearing the USDA’s organic label, had its organic certificate revoked by Germany-certifier Certification of Environmental Standards GmbH (CERES), effective May 17.

The USDA’s National Organic Program (NOP) also reported that Brineworks Farms had its organic certificate suspended by certifier Oregon Tilth.

Brineworks Farms, which grows sweet cherries, apples, plums and various vegetables, is one of a handful of suppliers to a related entity Oregon Brineworks LLC, a maker of naturally fermented raw produce products based in Hood River, Ore.
